Most runet users live in western Russia

The population in the Russian territory is distributed in a most uneven manner. A majority of runet users come from the Central Federal District (19.8 m, out of which 7.3 m in Moscow), and every sixth user of the Russian-speaking internet live in the Volga Federal District (11 m) or in the Northwestern Federal District (10 m).

Vocational school graduates most prevalent

The runet population is also diversified in terms of the level of education. More than one-third of them are vocational school graduates (25 m), slightly fewer hold higher education diplomas (22 m). Over a quarter of Russian internet users have secondary education (18.5 m). Among Russian online audience, the smallest groups are persons who have not yet finished their academic training (3 m) or secondary school (1.4 m).

The data quoted originates from an international project (gemiusAudience) conducted by Gemius in more than 30 countries. It aims to research into the number and demographic profile of internet users and the manner in which they utilize the web. The study is performed according to Gemius proprietary hybrid methodology and in accordance with the ICC/ESOMAR international code of conduct.
