Ukraine: the most popular domestic websites

The website Rozetka.com.ua is visited by the largest percentage of Ukrainian internet users. Which other domestic websites are popular? Check out the ranking prepared by Gemius.[nbsp]

Gemius decided to find out which domestic websites are visited most often by internet users in Ukraine. The analysis covered data from September 2015.

Online shopping very popular

First place went to a website that enables online shopping – Rozetka.com.ua (nearly 30 per cent reach among Ukrainian internet users). This online shop offers electronics and appliances. Other popular shopping websites are Prom.ua (nearly 23 per cent) and Ria.com (12 per cent).

– In the top 10 domestic websites in Ukraine nowadays, 30 per cent are e-commerce websites – that's a big share of the category, which proves that online shopping is a current trend in the Ukrainian online market – says Lesya Prus, industry expert and head of the Ukrainian branch of Gemius. – The data from September 2014 shows the same pattern. The seven other websites in the ranking cover topics such as weather forecasts, portals, banks, and file and movie sharing resources. Compared to the previous year, the ranking hasn't changed much – there is only one news site left in the top 10 – comments Prus.

Internet banking services in the top 3

Another popular website in Ukraine is that of the largest commercial bank – Privatbank.ua – which is visited by one in four Ukrainian internet users (26 per cent).

Where do Ukrainians look for information?

In the top 10 there are also two weather information websites – Sinoptik.ua (20 per cent) and the slightly less popular Gismeteo.ua (15 per cent). The comparison of domestic websites also includes news services: Ukr.net (over 19 per cent), I.ua (almost 13 per cent), which also offers free e-mail accounts, and the portal Segodnya.ua (11 per cent). Internet services are represented by the hosting service Ex.ua (16 per cent), which gives the option to store and share files.

About the research

The data comes from gemiusAudience, an international research project conducted by Gemius in around 30 countries in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. It aims to determine the number and demographic profile of internet users and to learn about the ways in which they use the internet: websites, audio and video material, or applications. The research is carried out in compliance with the international code of conduct ICC/ESOMAR.
