One episode is not enough

The number of series addicts is growing fast. Almost a quarter (270 thousand) of individuals who enjoy them on Polish online services watch more than one episode in a row – an analysis conducted by the consulting company Gemius for the polish daily n

Some series enthusiasts (23 per cent of series audience on VoD and 2.4 per cent of all VoD services users) watch them compulsively (270 thousand internet users). Most persons watch two (220 thousand viewers) or three episodes (72 thousand) in one go. Less popular is watching four (32 thousand) or five (15 thousand) episodes in a line. Some devote their time to six or even more episodes per one session (17 thousand).

Gazeta Wyborcza, the polish nationwide daily newspaper, informed in the article “One episode is not enough” that compulsive series watching is not a rare phenomenon. “Evening and weekend marathons are now almost a standard,” the journalist, Vadim Makarenko, comments.

The above data and conclusions come from an analysis of video materials displayed on one of the leading portals providing VoD and on a website owned by a TV station. The data was collected in October 2013. They were obtained with a tool for measurement of multimedia content online (gemiusStream).
