E-commerce attracts 70% of Hungarian internet users

Every month, nearly three quarters of Hungarian internet users visit e-commerce websites. That’s 3,5 million users. The analysed sites were viewed on average 545 million times per month by Hungarians in 2014. Read on for the details of Gemius’ most recent study.

According to a report by the Ecommerce Europe association, which covers more than twenty-five thousand companies operating in the consumer market, the value of the e-commerce sector in Hungary is EUR 810 million. Gemius decided to analyse how Hungarian interest in e-commerce websites changed during 2014. Monthly averages from each quarter were used.

Seven out of ten Hungarian internet users on e-commerce websites

In Hungary in 2014, websites devoted to e-commerce (including e-shops, auction websites, price comparison sites and product opinion services) were visited by seven out of ten internet users per month on average (3.5 million, 69 per cent of users).

Most views on e-commerce sites in the third quarter

In the analysed period, most views occurred in the third quarter of 2014. During that time, network users generated a total of over 1.9 billion page views on e-commerce websites. That's around 650 million more than in the previous quarter.

About the study

The data comes from an international study carried out by Gemius in more than 30 countries across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (gemiusAudience). Its purpose was to find out the number and demographic profiles of internet users, as well as how they use the internet – including websites, audio and video material, and applications. The study was conducted in accordance with the rules of the ICC/ESOMAR International Code. In Hungary it was carried out under the name Gemius/Ipsos Audience Fusion Hungary.
