Two-thirds of Estonian internet users choose Google Chrome

Data published by the internet technology and research company Gemius on the website ranking.gemius.com shows that Google Chrome is the most widely used browser for internet browsing in Estonia, with the mobile version being the most popular. The popularity of the mobile version of Safari is also increasing, while the use of the Mozilla Firefox browser is becoming less frequent.

According to publicly available data from gemiusRanking, more than 60 percent of total internet page views are made using the Google Chrome browser. Over the past four years, the most significant increase in popularity – by 6 percentage points – can be observed for the mobile version of Google Chrome, and since 2023, it has become the most used internet browser in Estonia. In October of this year, it accounted for 33 percent of all internet page views, while 31 percent of page views were made using the standard version of Google Chrome, placing it in second place.

The mobile version of Safari holds a stable third place, with its popularity continuing to grow. In October of this year, it accounted for 13 percent of internet page views. Meanwhile, the fourth and fifth positions in recent years have been shared by the Samsung Browser and Microsoft Edge, with each accounting for 5 percent of page views in October this year. However, the Mozilla Firefox browser has experienced a steady decline in popularity, dropping from the fourth most popular browser position to sixth over the past four years. In October of this year, only 3 percent of page views were made using Mozilla Firefox browser.

In addition to the browsers already mentioned, in October of this year, 4 percent of internet page views were made using the Facebook in-app browser, and 4 percent - using the standard version of Safari, while less than 1 percent of page views were made using Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Data are gathered by means of tracking scripts embedded in the source code of websites Thanks to the information collected by the tracking scripts, every page view can be assigned to the appropriate category, e.g. web browser – Chrome 61, or operating system – Android. Aggregated and sorted data form a ranking within one category. Every ranking is calculated based on traffic on websites for which at least 100 page views of a particular category is registered every week.
